Rutland Girls Can
Rutland Girls Can- Secondary School Event
On Wednesday 3rd May, girls from Uppingham Community College attended the second annual Rutland Schools' This Girl Can event at the Active Rutland Hub.
Due to our very own gymnastics facilities hosting the Leicester-Shire and Rutland County Gymnastics Finals (a fantastic achievement) at the Active Rutland Hub, the rescheduled date proved to be difficult for teachers and students to commit to due to exam stress! However, 1 school remained! And UCC teachers identified girls who had a negative attitude towards PE and School Sport, or lacked confidence in PE lessons. These girls were invited to the Active Rutland Hub to take part in three very different sport activities!
- Tennis - Led by R2R coach Richard Wilson
- Zumba! - Led by Nicola Morgan
- Rugby - Led by Maria Crowfoot
Although the event was a roaring success with all participants leaving feeling more positive towards PE, School sport and physical activity, there was a common theme in the post event questionnaires! Climbing! Last years, Rockblok was so popular that we then sent all 13 girls (and 2 teachers) to Whitwell on the 13th July for a climbing session.
Please see below pictures from both events, feedback and testimonials. As well as 2016s event!
