What is Sportivate?

Sportivate is a £56 million Lottery funded London 2012 legacy project that gives more young people the chance to discover a sport that they love. The programme gives 14 to 25 year olds who are not particularly sporty access to 6-8 weeks of free or subsidised coaching in a range of sports and once finished will be supported to continue playing sport. Theres a wide range of activities on offer: judo, golf, tennis, wakeboarding and parkour/free running and many more.

During the 6-8 weeks those taking part can work towards an event or personal goal and when the programme finishes, they will be supported to continue playing sport.

Sportivate launched in June 2011 as a 4 year programme aimed at 14 to 25 year olds but due to its success, additional funding of £10 million per year has been invested allowing the programme to run until March 2017. Since September 2013, Sportivate has extended its age group so that 11 to 13 year olds can also take part. Sportivate is inclusive and targets a variety of young people including those who have a disability and people from black and minority ethnic groups.

How Can You Get Involved?

If you're a participant: You can attend any Sportivate project within the area - just turn up and play! Bring your friends, family or partner along and enjoy a fun, informal coached session which you may have never tried before. Take a look at the projects happening in this area in the table below.

If you're a service deliverer: You can offer your programme to anyone within that age group whether they are from a particular school, college, club or the wider community. The funding that you apply for can cover all costs, such as; facilities, equipment, coaching costs, transport for the participants and advertising.

Active Rutland runs a number of Sportivate projects across the county. Keep up to date by checking the website for news, updates and information on all of our projects!

What Next?

The current Sportivate programme will run until March 2017; we are currently looking for service providers to run sessions during this time period. Now this may seem a long way off but to secure funding, write the bid, finalise the venue and determine a budget is a process which can take time. If you need any support during this process please get in contact.

  • If you want to get into an activity and it's not currently being offered, APPLY.
  • If you can't afford to get the equipment together, APPLY.
  • If transport or a venue is difficult or too expensive, APPLY.
