5th Annual Walking and Cycling Festival 2014

The Rutland Walking and Cycling Festival is back for its fifth year and bigger and better than ever. Active Rutland leads the event and it will include family, inclusive and senior cycle rides plus two great launch events at Rutland Water and Ketton Sports Association. The popular festival is a fun packed celebration of Rutland and its glorious countryside.

The Walking and Cycling Festival will host led walks and cycle rides to suit all ages and abilities, perfect for a family day out. The residents of Rutland are encouraged to join the many visiting walkers and cyclists, who travel from far and wide to take part.

Kick-start your Health with Walking

Sunday 18th May at Ketton Sports Association

From 11am – 4pm, there will be a variety of walks on offer to experience, local walking groups plus tasters of the new craze, Nordic Walking. Included in the day will be stalls and exhibitors from a wide range of charity and voluntary groups along with refreshments and a great atmosphere! You will be able to get your health checked out by our local sports centres and get walking to improve it! Further to this Ketton Sports Clubs will be offering mini sessions in their sports, with clubs from bowls to tennis; there's lots for all ages.

Walking Week (19th – 24th May)

Showcasing the beautiful countryside of Rutland with a range of exciting walks, taking in the beauty and diversity of Rutland's landscape, towns and villages – and with distances ranging from a short amble to a 6 mile plus rambles, there really will be something for everyone. All walks will either run during the day or in the evening therefore accessible for all.

The BIG Family Cycle Launch

Hosted by Rutland Cycling on Sunday 25th May at Rutland Water, Whitwell

Aiming to host a number of activities for all the family including cycling displays, face painting, smoothie bike maker and exhibitors for all things cycling! It will highlight the opportunities for you as a family, couple, friends or individual to get involved in cycling in Rutland. Get down to Whitwell from Midday to see the array of activities.

Cycling Week (26th May – 31st May)

There will be a number of rides which the whole family and community can be involved in all week long. You can attend an evening bike ride to a Ladies only ride and of course, the local nature rides for all the family. There will be a chance to experience using electric bikes for your short journey's and throughout the week, there will be cycle clinics to keep you informed on how to maintain your bike.

The Rutland Round 2014

During week two (25th - 31st May) of the Festival, you can walk the 64 mile Rutland Round across 6 days with its author John Williams.

What better way to get a true feel for the beauty of the county than through the eyes (and footprints!) of someone as passionate about it as John. Each section of the Rutland Round starts at 9am and places are limited for this part of the Festival, booking is essential so be sure to register your interest early. Transport will be available for those who require it.
